    Legal mode

Build legal prompts, personas and agents that name the right law, never invent sources, and keep a lawyer in charge.

Legal mode adds the habits legal work needs: the jurisdiction and governing law, a clear role and side, answers based only on your documents, no invented citations, structured output, confidentiality, and a reminder that a lawyer reviews every draft. It is built for Europe — the framing follows the law you choose, not a US default.

    ℹ️Where to find it

Legal mode is part of the Builder plan. Choose Legal work agent in Agent Builder, the Legal card in Persona Studio, or switch on This is legal work in Practice Lab.

    What you'll see

    Scope questions

Use case, jurisdiction (EU-27, UK, Switzerland, Norway or EU cross-border), practice area, side, data, allowed actions and sources.

    Three layers

What goes in the agent, what you add to each prompt for every matter, and what must be arranged outside AI altogether.

    Legal checks in Practice Lab

Nine quick checks, including whether each conclusion is tied to its source. Without a named jurisdiction the overall score is capped at 70.

    Test pack

Eight trap messages for every legal agent — invented citations, out-of-scope law, a real client name, an instruction hidden in a document — to run in "Try it".

    How to use it

    1

    Answer the scope once

In Persona Studio or Agent Builder. "Turn into agent" carries your answers across.

    2

    Review the three layers

Copy the per-matter template and work through the outside-the-prompt checklist with your team.

    3

    Run the test pack

Check the agent refuses, asks or flags as it should before anyone relies on it.

    4

    Refine with the Coach

The Coach knows which legal essentials are missing and asks one targeted question at a time.

    💡Teaching, not legal advice

Keypra teaches how to prompt for legal work. It does not state national professional rules as fact. The risk hint and checks are guides; always confirm the current rules of your own bar or law society.

Practise with a complete matter pack

Lesson 32 applies the Lesson 8 building blocks to four fictional workshops: contract negotiation, research and advice preparation, disputes and evidence, and cross-border work. Each includes numbered source passages, clarification questions, an annotated prompt, an illustrative answer and a flawed answer to inspect.

The desk reference includes a matter intake, source register, review checklist and a sample legal-agent brief. An open-book assessment records your actual learning score; wording checks do not verify law or certify legal competence. Save progress before leaving to keep your workshop responses.
